Dookie Artists Tree gallery and nursery is a treasure in the main street of Dookie at 64 Mary Street. It is run by artists and plant specialists Liz Evans and Andrew (Sandsy) Sands. Established in September 2018 Dookie Artists Tree (DAT) is an evolving collection of local and modern art, plants, environment friendly home wares and interesting objects.
The eclectic space occupies what once were two important businesses for Dookie – the butchers shop built in 1897; and the printing rooms for the Dookie Katamatite Recorder, a local newspaper. Dookie Artists Tree is a vibrant business adding to the interest and intrigue of Dookie.
The Press Gallery is a room that formerly held the newspaper printing press and now shows works from a stable of local artists as well as regular themed exhibitions throughout out the year.
You will find exotic and indigenous indoor plants and a developing creative outdoor space full of sculpture and a well-stocked nursery. Liz and Sandsy have significant knowledge of plants and specialise in grasses and other vegetation of the northern plains. They are passionate about the conservation of the local environment and keen to share their love of plants and art.
