Rye at Tallis

Welcome to ‘Rye at Tallis’ – our region’s newest wine bar bringing foodies to the hills of Dookie. For local wines, long lunches and epic views

Welcome to Rye at Tallis. Since opening in May, Rye at Tallis has been drawing food and wine lovers from near and far for warming winter eats and top-shelf drinks. Formerly the Tallis Wines cellar door, Rye at Tallis has completely reimagined the iconic venue as a modern wine bar and restaurant. The Rye at Tallis name pays homage to the location surrounded by Tallis family farm and vineyards where boutique wine is still produced and sold.

Rye at Tallis is the passion born of directors Tess Nicholson & Hannah Harmer, with family connections to the region and a background in events, hospitality, marketing and design, the entrepreneurial pair and keen to display the best of the Goulburn Valley region.

“Our wine menu features all the Tallis Wines and varietals, but the experience has significantly changed. We’ve expanded our wine list to showcase many more wonderful local wines and gins from across our region,” says Tess Nicholson, the bar’s co-owner and Kialla local. Think Pinot Gris by Tahbilk, Sangiovese by Murchison Wine and a range of gins by Black Rabbit and Sidehustle.

Under the guidance of highly regarded local chef Lachy Andrew, formerly of Teller Collective, the food menu has also scaled up, allowing groups to settle in around tables or by the roaring fire with a range of dishes paired to wines. The menu is a showcase of Goulburn Valley produce with tasty selections that include chicken goujons, arancini with smoked mozzarella centres and chips with truffle pecorino or graze your way through platter selections featuring the best of our seasonal produce. Long Sunday lunches run every so often, the last featured Indigo Valley succulent lamb and local pork alongside roasted seasonal vegetables with crusty bread baked in town and sticky date pudding to finish.

As well as a delicious introduction to the region’s produce, Rye at Tallis is also known for its sweeping vistas over the valley. It’s little wonder the venue has already hosted private and corporate dinners and have been approached for wedding bookings. “Luckily we already have experience in weddings and functions,” adds co-owner Hannah Harmer. “With the views, the beautiful space, our amazing chef and of course the wine list, there’s really nowhere else like it.”

Rye at Tallis is open and Thursday to Sunday for lunch and afternoons. With a pizza oven and live music coming soon, the bar is looking forward to being to hosting many more locals and all lovers of great food and wine. Follow our Instagram page for weekly menu updates www.instagram.com/ryeattallis
